I drive past this sign regularly and always wonder... Originally a salt-water marsh fed by sea water, Sims Pond Biological Reserve is now a fresh-water marsh and seasonal pond fed by a urban runoff from a nearby golf course. Migratory birds use Sims Pond as rest stop. The pond is home to ducks, egrets, catfish and mosquito fish. The fish keep the mosquito population in check by eating the larvae. Willow trees and native plants surround the pond providing shelter for the pond's inhabitants. It's closed to the general public but I have to wonder if our namesake might earn us a peek inside? I'll put it on the 2026 to-do list.
